Mi Pintora Favorita / My Favorite Painter

Mujer luchadora, positiva, talentosa, inspiradora, ejemplo de vida.
Tengo la gran fortuna de ser su hija y de poder aprender de ella. Recientemente pude hacerle una entrevista en su faceta como artista. Ella aunque no lo parezca es una mujer tímida así que no fue fácil hacerle esta breve entrevista. Aquí esta:

Lucy La Pintora.
Lucy Rojas, nació en Cali, Colombia, y hace mas de 20 años reside en los Estados Unidos.

Angie: Mami a qué edad te comenzó a gustar el arte?
Lucy: Toda la vida me ha gustado el arte y las manualidades. Cuando me inicie a hacer manualidades tenia como veinte años y fue con una clase de cerámica. No recuerdo exactamente como me empecé en la pintura , pero recuerdo que me inscribí en un atelier de pintura y tome clases particulares.

A: Se que has vivido en Colombia y Venezuela, en que país empezaste a pintar?
L: Me inicie en Venezuela. Mis primeros pininos fue haciendo flores de tela y otras manualidades de la época como tocados de novia.

A: De todas tus manualidades puedes decir que la pintura es tu pasión verdad?
Si, la pintura al oleo. Durante toda mi vida he hecho muchos cursos de manualidades, he tomado clases de bordado en cinta, pintar en tela, joyería y muchos más que ya no recuerdo.

A: Porque el oleo?
L: He intentando pintar con acrílico, pero con el acrílico no me he identificado tanto como con el oleo. Con el oleo me siento cómoda. Me gusta! Llevo como cuarenta años que pinto, pero no me he podido dedicar a la pintura, siempre lo he tenido que hacer en diferentes etapas de mi vida.

A: Que te inspira? cuál es tu musa?
L: Jum! eso no es fácil explicar…todo me inspira la naturaleza, los paisajes.

A:Entonces qué prefieres pintar?
L: No tengo una preferencia, me gustan pintar paisajes, flores, pero todo depende de lo que me inspire. Me gusta pintar de todo.

A: Que sueñas poder hacer con tu pintura? como artista?
L:Desearía irme a Europa. Poder irme a España y dedicarme solo a pintar.

I am very fortunate to be her daughter and be able to learn from her. Recently I was able to interview the artist side of her. She may not seem so, but she is quite shy so it was hard to do this short interview. Here it is:

Lucy The Painter.
Lucy Rojas was born in Cali, Colombia, she has lived in the United States for over 20 years.

Angie: Mami at what age did art start to interest you?
Lucy: All my life I have liked arts and crafts. When I first started doing crafts I was about 20 years old and my first class was ceramics. I don’t remember exactly how I started with painting, but I enrolled myself in a painting atelier and took private lessons.

A: I know that you have lived in Colombia and Venezuela, in what country did you start painting?
L: I started painting in Venezuela. My first steps in crafts were making fabric flowers, and other crafts of that era like making bridal headpieces.

A: Out of all the crafts you know, you can say that painting is your passion?
L: Yes, oil painting. Throughout my life I have taken many crafting classes, I have taken classes of ribbon embroidery, painting on fabric, jewelry making among many others that I don’t remember right now.

A: Why oil painting?
L: I have tired painting with acrylic paint. I have not been able to identify with acrylic as I do with oil painting. I feel comfortable with oil. I like it! I have been painting for about forty years but I have not been able to dedicate myself to painting, I have always had to do it in different states in my life.

A: What inspires you? what’s your muse?
L: Hum! That is not easy to explain…everything inspires me, nature, landscapes.

A: So what is your favorite thing to paint?
L: I don’t have a preference, I like to paint landscapes, flowers, but it all depends on what is inspiring me. I like to paint everything.

A: What would you like to do with your painting? what are your dreams as an artist?
L: I would like to go to Europe. Go to Spain and dedicate myself to painting.

Hola!Mi vida es un poco ajetreada. Y esta es mi razón  por la cual no escribo más frecuentemente  :)Como ya sabes  soy Madre de dos niños.  Desde la última vez  que escribí estuve viajando mensualmente de Ohio a Florida. Ya vendimos nuestra casa y estamos en proceso de mudarnos nuevamente a Florida.   Así que he estado ocupada  empacando,  mudándome, vendiendo nuestra casa, cuidando de mi Madre que está batallando el cáncer. Y como no tenía suficientes estresantes también me toco  cuidar a mi pequeña que se enfermo y que termino enfermándome a mí mientras  nos mudábamos….así que no he tenido mucho tiempo para escribir.Tengo que hacer tiempo, para agradecer todos mis maravillosos familiares y amigos que me han dado la mano de una forma u otra. Muchas Gracias! No podría hacer todo lo que hago sin ustedes.   Definitivamente no podría ser la Madre, Hija, Amiga, Esposa que soy si no fuera por mi esposo.  Y sin sus oraciones y apoyo no podría hacerlo todo.Soy muy afortunada y estoy muy agradecida.

Hi!My life is a bit hectic. This is my excuse for not writing more often  :)As you know I am a mother of two.  Since my last post I have been traveling monthly from Ohio to Florida.  We’ve now sold our house and are right in the middle of moving back to Florida.  My time has been occupied with packing, moving, selling a house, taking care of my Mom that is battling cancer. A particularly stressful time was taking care of my little one who got sick and eventually got me sick while we were moving….so I have not had much time to write.I must  make time to thank all my wonderful family and friends who have lent  me a hand in one way or another.  Muchas Gracias! I could not do all I do without  you.   I could definitely not be the Mother, Daughter, Friend and Wife that I am if it wasn’t for my husband.  And without  all of your prayers and support I could not do it all.I am very fortunate and I am very grateful.

Un Balde De Agua Fría / A Ton Of Bricks

Hay algunas noticias en la vida que le caen a uno como dice el dicho: “como un balde de agua fría”. Esto fue lo que me ocurrió a mi cuando le diagnosticaron a mi Mami cáncer del seno. Recuerdo escuchar el Doctor decirlo y sentir como mi cuerpo se entumecía. No me puedo ni imaginar cómo se sintió en ese momento mi Mami.
¿Como te mantienes de pie cuando te mueven el piso? ¿Cuando todo se te mueve así como en un terremoto? No sé, pero lo haces.
No es secreto que amo a mi Madre con todo mí ser, y esta noticia es una de las más dolorosas que he recibido en mi vida. Esa noticia fue mi “balde de agua fría”.

Some pieces of news in life hit you like “a ton of bricks”. That’s what happened to me when my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember listening to the Doctor say the words and instantly feeling my body becoming numb. I can’t even start to imagine how my Mom felt in that moment.
How do you manage to still stay standing up when the earth beneath you is moving? When you are being shaken as in an earthquake? I don’t quite know, you just do it.
It’s not a secret that I love my Mom very much, and this piece of news is one of the most painful I have received in my life. This piece of news was my “ton of bricks”.
